More than a decade ago, Baby Einstein was founded by a new mom who wanted to create products that encouraged interactive experiences for parents and their young children as they discovered the world together. Today, this same philosophy of fostering parent-child interaction is at the heart of everything that we do - from our DVDs, books, and CDs to toys and baby accessories.
Baby Einstein products are designed to provide parents with tools that promote interaction and also expose their little ones to the world around them in playful and enriching ways. What started as a "digital board book" has become a broad array of products for infants and their parents.
Baby Einstein has built its reputation on creating developmentally and age appropriate content that parents know they can trust. In
support of interaction beginning at a very early age, we recommend:
Baby Einstein DVDs are designed to inspire parent-child interaction and to make a parent's active participation easy. By using the DVD like a "hands-free" book and simply pointing to or naming objects on the screen, parents will open a whole new world of discovery for baby. The difference is that you make up the story.
One of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to share time together is to listen to or make music. No matter what the preferred genre is, music is enjoyed by all generations, cultures, and geographies. When you listen to a Baby Einstein CD, clap, dance, or sing with baby - it will make the listening experience fun for both of you.
TALK and READ TOGETHER.
Not only do conversations and story-time foster language development and communication, they stimulate a child's imagination. The more words a child hears, the more he or she can begin to express feelings, name objects, and respond to you with sounds that will soon become words. The Baby Einstein books are designed for lap time and cuddle time when you and your baby can talk about each picture.
Since the introduction of television, there has been an ongoing discussion about children's exposure to electronic media and, most recently, about infant exposure to DVDs. One concern is that media exposure will supplant the time parents spend with their children. This concern and others led to the 1999 American Academy of Pediatrics' (AAP) recommendation of no television for children under the age of two.
While we do not believe that this reflects the reality of today's parents, families, and households, we want to shine a light on the root of this recommendation, which is the critical need for parent-child interaction.
This is a philosophy that is core to Baby Einstein's beliefs and product development process. Baby Einstein products are designed to provide parents with a variety of tools they can use to help their babies explore the world around them - music, animals, and more. No one product or category of products does it all; but, by combining real world exploration with the interactive use of age-appropriate videos, books, toys, other products, and real world objects, parents can help make their babies' discoveries even more exciting. We know parents want to spend lots of time with their babies, and Baby Einstein products are often their inspirational platform. What is important is to balance screen time with other activities in baby's daily routine.
