The Happy State of Mind
When a baby looks up and smiles, we get a warm melting feeling that instantly surges up from the heart to our mouth, which we open to provide a returning smile and spew out a bunch of loving nonsense. I'm sure the brain is involved in our reaction but that's not where we feel it. That smile means baby is happy. The alertness reflected in baby's eyes lets you know that baby wants communication. And we are only too happy to reciprocate.
The fundamentals of positive communication—the kind that inspires trust and knowing between you and your baby—is grounded in feeling happy. A happy baby is poised to explore and be confident; after all, if the world is a happy place, babies will trust you to guide them toward discovery and new experiences. The Baby Einstein products, from picture books to mobiles, and other toys and gear, are designed to support your efforts to provide moments of discovery and happiness with your baby and when baby plays in quiet solitude.
"There's nothing quite like the smile of recognition from a child"
There's nothing quite like the smile of recognition from a child—from the first "I know you!" smile to the "I can do this!" squeal, baby's happiness is the foundation for engaging them in all sorts of learning. It might be about how to socialize with little friends, or learning about the sights and sounds at home and in the world, to understanding how to master their own emotions as they get older.
Of course, babies aren’t happy all the time. When they feel distress we look to provide comfort. And through those episodes of calming communication we begin to see all the nuances of our babies' emotions. We find many different ways to soothe our babies depending on the source of distress. We find our way to lots of one on one emotional communication. And the big payoff is we find our way back to feeling happy - that all is well in baby's world.
In the video link below, you'll see a trio of babies who more or less demand that Mommy help them reach the happy baby state. In this instance, Mom turns to Baby Einstein for help, and within seconds the trio is full of happy smiles. Remarkable!
